"forests are the lungs of our land. purifying the air and givinng fresh strength to our people"

Deforestation in Ethiopia.

“If a man loses one-third of his skin, he dies. If a tree loses one-third of its bark, it too dies. If the earth is a sentient being, would it not reasonable to expect that if it loses one-third of its trees and vegetative covering, it will also dies?"

Deforestation is a major environmental problem in Ethiopia. Ethiopia has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world, losing about 1.4 million hectares of forest every year, according to the United Nations. This devastates the country's biodiversity, soil quality, water resources, and the livelihoods of millions of people who depend on the forest for food, fuel, and medicine.

The main causes of deforestation in Ethiopia are the expansion of agricultural land, commercial logging, and fuelwood collection. The government has taken various measures to address this issue, including reforestation programs, community forest management, and the creation of protected areas. However, these efforts have been limited due to financial constraints, inadequate implementation, and weak enforcement.

The consequences of deforestation in Ethiopia are severe. Forests help regulate the water cycle, prevent soil erosion, and provide habitat for wildlife. When forests are cleared, the land becomes more vulnerable to erosion, resulting in the loss of fertile soil and reduced agricultural productivity. Deforestation also contributes to climate change by releasing large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. In addition, deforestation has social implications, especially for indigenous communities who rely on forests as their traditional way of life.

VISION.

MISSION.

To promote and assist the sustainable supply of quality forest/ forage seeds and animal feeds in collaboration with the farming community, tree growers and other relevant stakeholders engaged in combating climate change, land degradation and contribute to the efforts made towards improving the livelihood of the people. The Enterprise will also provide technical support that enables to secure and develop seed and feed sources to meet the seed and feed requirements for rehabilitation of the degraded grazing and forestlands.

OBJECTIVE.

The main objective is to actively work in the production of improved forage/forest seeds and animal feeds and supply to the end users, and more specifically to: ⦁ Engage in production, processing, handling, supply of quality forest tree, and forage seeds. ⦁ Engage in production, mowing, bailing, handling and supply of commercial green feed (Hay & densified feed). ⦁ Engage in propagation, processing, handling and supply of required planting materials for roads and railways sides’ rehabilitation soil and water. ⦁ Promote forage seed out-growers and forest tree collectors to ensure availability of seeds both in quality and in quantity throughout the country.
